today is the first day of the rest of your life, will it be successfull?

by alucard on Jul.24, 2009, under Personal

Yes. I try to make every single counting. Life is short and there is a lot of things I need to accomplish. My lady thinks that I speed up everything, but the true is that there is not time to waste.

“If today were the last day of your life, would you want to do what you are about to do today?”

My answer is yes. Do I regret decisions I took in the past, none of them. Life is one big learning experience.

why is it so hard to find what matter to you?

by alucard on May.31, 2009, under Personal

“If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. And that is true for your work as it is for your lovers. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle” – Steve Jobs, 2005 Stanford University.

If you think that you will find what matter for you in a second like being hitting by a lighting you are most probably wrong. Finding what matter is a question of time and it takes some trials before ultimately finding it. You have to stay focus and consistent to do what you thing is right until you will fell it closer and closer.

I remember myself at 16 no going anywhere because what I was doing was not the right thing. I was at school, not successful, very popular, wearing a daily costume, bottom line I was totally lost. I decided to drop school one day after many failures without knowing what I will do next. I was lucky enough to have a father that support me and helped me to find my way. What mattered to me was in front of me for a decade without I notified it, I was spending most of my time in front of it, I was good at it, computers. So I decided to start a computing school. After one year and half the same schema started again, I was not in love of what I was doing so I drop this school too.

I was time for me to work and try earning money, I was at the time working in “half time” (12 hours per day) in a internet coffee. That gave me a lot of experience, I haven’t been pay from the day I start until the day the company bankrupt, I was working after work on my own to do freelance to develop website and in others less ethical jobs. The day this company bankrupt I decided to move on and to try something else. I was tired to stay in front of a computer for 18 hours per days and earning no money at all. So I quit on what matter to me.

I created a “communication” company. Basically we were 3 friends who didn’t know what to do and with a lot of free time. We start knocking at the door of shop to asked them if they wanted our services. Our pitch was ridicule, it was obvious that  we didn’t know what we were doing but we tried for 8 months. Finally I discover that both of my friends were not able to wake up before 3pm to start working and we all decided to stop again.

I was time for me to focus again on my first love, computers. I had a job interview in the company I am working now to be a network administrator in part time as an intern. I said “yes” and I try since to make everything possible to make my next day happen because there is nothing better that doing what you love. This is not a job for me, this a my life and I have to be successful in it to not waste the effort I put to chasing the opportunity.

What kind of employee are you?

by alucard on May.30, 2009, under Personal

As Rod say there is different type of employee, but I would like to go further in the number of type and maybe find the source of the difference :

  • The sloppy : the “S” type is one of the most common one, his ultimate target will be to make just enough work to not make him kick out of his company. He stays focus on how to minimize his effort and is the perfect 9 to 5 employee, you will never see the S after working hour (except to check facebook or X video on youtube because he forgot to pay his internet bill at home or at the home of his mom). The S type is not a bad guy, he is a person that doesn’t see any futur in his role, someone that doesn’t have any inspiration. But at the end it’s up to him to make his life and work happen.
  • the victim aka “moocher” : the “V” type is definitely the type I hate the most. He truly believe to be better to do his job and other know about it bu prefer to let him down. He is a total bitch and spend his whole time to do “politic” in his company. He only feels good when he won one of his little coffe machine war. Bottom line he will stay a victim until he is fired and at the point he will try to become the martyr and bring other in his chute. It’s not up to him to make his life happen because he is a victim, it’s better for him to go back living on his mom couch.
  • the leader aka “striker” : he makes his life and job happen, bring his touch in any project, inspire other from his leadership attitude. They are few, most of the time they are not appreciate by the moocher or the sloppy (that doesn’t stop the victim to try to steal from their work). I have the chance to know some of them, and they all have something in common whatever their universe is, they are good in what they do because what they do have a meaning for them.

Does what YOU do mean something to YOU?
